FUNCTIONAL HEARING LOSS ( NON- ORGANIC)
This term brodly include inability to hear beacuseof psychological causes with no organic lesions. This deafness can be either of conscious or unconscious origin.
1) FEIGNED DEAFNESS OR MALINGERING:- Conscious origin , in order to gain a definite advantage .
2) HYSTERICAL:- Unconscious orgin , organ of hearing is normal.
3) PSYCHOSOMATIC:- Unconscious origin , but there may be an organic change in audiotary apparatus resulting from mental causes .
THE PATIENT MAY PRESENT WITH:
a) Total hearing loss in both ears.
b) Total loss in one ear.
c) Exaggerated loss in one or both ears.
