Patients Selection for COCHLEAR IMPLEMENT-congenital deafness. Acquired profoundly deaf patient with above 80dB loss in Postlingual deafness. Acquired profoundly deaf child with normal cochlear development. Implant between 2 to 4 years of age gives best result. Postlingual profound deafness caused by meningitis is not a not a good candidate for CI. Meningitis initiates new bone formation leading to cochlear obliteration making insertion of the electrode difficult.
